The reindeer are pawing their hooves in anticipation–not long now.

Looking into the mirror as I brushed my teeth this morning I noticed a small outbreak of unwelcome  spots–quite probably a result of wolfing down way too many of the hand-made chocolates made by my brother’s German girlfriend and which he brought over with him from Berlin.

Shame about the spots, but winning chocolates, Dorothea, especially the mint ones–danke sehr!

If it’s not German chocolates being stuffed into my mouth its tangerines and walnuts which are hard to resist as my mother seems to have dotted them in stockpiles all over the house (tangerine peels and walnut crumbs form an accusatory semicircle around this laptop).

Last night’s viewing was a festive episode from the legendary Granada Sherlock Holmes series called “The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle ” in which Homes, played by the mesmerising Jeremy Brett, has to retrieve a diamond stolen from a rich countess’s hotel room in time for Christmas.

Hot tip: Tonight at 6:25 p.m. GMT the Christmas classic “The Snowman” is showing on the U.K.’s  Channel 4 and it’s sequel “The Snowman and the Snowdog” will be on C4 at 8 p.m. GMT on Christmas Eve.

Happy eating and happy viewing.
